4th
Cider & Music Festival, Le Corboulo, Oct 2001
Central Brittany
20-28 Oct 2001
Yes we've done it again ! A smaller turnout of visitors this year but lots of
goodwill spread amongst our neighbours. We played a Friday night session on 26th
October in the Bar Corboulo, courtesy of Jacqueline and family, with Trevor, Dave
Hunt, Richard Goodwin plus local musicians Christian & Alain le Guehennec.
The evening was much animated by our walks back home in the dark to get storm
lanterns etc because of a series of power cuts !
Saturday 27th saw another set of apple crushing and pressing, a good
rehearsal by the newly formed Twm Twp Big Band (Breton based Welsh folk dance
music- apparently the locals are fascinated by a band with no vowels) and some
dancing in the Hangar. We carried on in the same vein all evening, with more
visits from the Le Guehennec family, the music not entirely benefiting from an
earlier visit to the Cave for supplies!
Sunday
28th. The Bio Market at the Abbaye de Bon-Repos welcomed us again in the
morning, with a lean mean band consisting of Paul Havell and Trevor Bennett. The
afternoon grew hot at St-Aignan Chrysanthemum Festival with a superb turn-out of
visitors, and Trevor and Paul played on and off all afternoon for our suppers
(well our aperitifs and lunches anyway). We forced samples of last year's and
this year's product on lots of locals, who in turn insisted that we try their
special brew, consisting of 1/4 kirsch, 1/4 grenadine syrop and 1/2 red wine. I
have never heard of this being a local custom!
We
continued through the week, pressing the last of the eating apples on Thurs 1st
November, making about 100 litres of 'jus de pomme'. We kept them separate this
year from the cider apples (about 90 litres).
